TRAIN  WORKING  NOTES

NETWORK SOUTHEAST

- Exeter to Portsmouth -

Class 50

This was a daily service between Exeter and Portsmouth with the exception of Sundays when there was no up train. Weekday down trains continued as far as Paignton although the up trains started at Exeter. On Saturdays the service ran between Paignton and Brighton as did the Sunday down train. The trains were hauled by class 33 locomotives until the class 50's took over with the
summer timetable in 1987. The occasional class 33 and class 47 stood in thereafter. The National Fares Manual for 1988 shows that the standard single fare between Portsmouth and Exeter was £16:40.
