The Furzebrook Gas trains have been very unreliable of late. Last week they ran daily was 21st-25th April. The week after there were two loaded trains, then only one the following week. This should have been the start of regular running again but no clear pattern has emerged.
66042 [EWS] was reported on Saturday light engine through Bomo - this returned as 6V13 1340 Furzebrook-Hallen Marsh, a pathway only normally used on holiday weekends.
The following pathways *should* now be those in operation:
6W53 0855 EH-Furzebrook (M-F)
6W54 1324 Furzebrook-EH (M-F)
6W65 1635 EH-Furzebrook (M-F)
6V29 2029 Furzebrook-Hallen Marsh (FO)

66201 [EWS] on 6W51 0855 EH-Furzebrook gas empties has failed between Bomo & Branksome. Fire Brigade in attendance at Branksome Hill Road cooling down an overheated wagon bearing [Still stationary @1210] Creeping forward slowly @1235, may remove defective wagon at Branksome or poss Poole. Buses replace trains again.... Train now split into 3 - defective wagon now on it's own, presumably the only way it's leaving is on a wheel skate. Understand the front part is now likely to go to Poole yard, unclear what's happening with the rear half. 66201 through Poole @ 13:32 with a full consist @ 20 MPH also really slow through Hammworthy. Didnt seperate train at Poole Yard. The Firebrigade were not happy at the wagon and the train continuing its journey so a wagon inspector was called out. Looked at the defective wagon and Ok'd it and the train set off at the 20 mph speed.

Although its under an allocated path booked through Poole at about 13:59 to arrive in Eastleigh @ 15:15 it was running some 75 minutes down. This has become somewhat of a Regular Saturday working over the last few weeks as its what I have heard been going through Poole at around 15:15 heading Bournemouth way, Obviously its not been running whilst the engineering works have been carried out.

AFAIK this is a first for a 59/2, it may also be a 1st for a 59/2 beyond Hamworthy Jn but can't say I'm particularly 'up to speed' on the class, so stand to be corrected here. Either way it's unusual.

Have heard froma reliable source that today is the last lpg train (official) but some may run monday latest update the tanks will run next week, BP are apparently having some trouble with their new lorries (shame), not sure how much longer 66143 in nice dorset sunshine on time at wareham Supposedly official last 6V29 Furzebrook - Hallen Marsh ( Avonmouth) LPG through Poole at 20:12 in charge of 66143. Supposedly last one but apparently will run 3 times next week and a further 2 more the following week.... apparently

I know we've heard this before but a number of reliable sources are confirming tomorrows (Fri 15/7) LPG trains to be the last - road problems
Tonight's 6V29 confirmed as last normal loaded LPG train to Avonmouth:-
0W65 16:47 Eastleigh T+RSMD - Furzebrook (18:48) Bomo 17:48.
6V29 19:37 Furzebrook - Avonmouth LPG (00:27) > Bomo 20:26, Soton 21:05, Salis 22:11. 6O10 03.00 Avonmouth LPG - Eastleigh Yd (05.33) > Bath 03/42, West 04:08, Salis 04:42.
The *last* (where have I heard that before!!) 6V29 Furzebrook - Avonmouth LPG train in the hands of 66120 through New Milton at 20:38.
66120 ( which was at Dagenham on Thursday) on the 6V29 furzebrook - Hallen Marsh LPG tonight. possibly the last full consist of LPG to Avonmouth. One more trip down to Furzebrook is planned for Monday to clear the sludge ( apparently) and then the Final train is due to leave either Wednesday or Friday, 95% certain it will be Friday. Then thats it no more Gas trains. Memo says empties in Mon, full sludge out Friday, but....have also heard it may be empties in Fri 22nd, sludge out Wed 27th. Either way it will run when BP want it too, so could be unpredictable, & sludge is all that's left.

It was originally thought tanks would be stored at Eastleigh for 'six months' just in case but assume that plan is now dead. Nothing showing yet for 27th July but the 1st set went as:-

Furzebrook gas will not be the last freight train off the branch either. There is a tank in the cripple siding at Furzebrook so a loco will be sent to pick it up. "So long and thanks for all the fish" - That was the message on the last wagon on the last ever LPG (Sludge / Dregs) Train out of Furzebrook tonight behind 66119.through Poole @ 20:12 this evening.
Not much more freight coming from Dorset these days.... Whilst I remember There is no cripple left at Furzebrook terminal, as it was shunted into the consist tonight. So indeed no more trains down to the Furzebrook Branch.

Eastleigh - The redundant LPG tanks will be making a return to Eastleigh afterall - Light engine booked to run 0Z?? 22:50 ish Eastleigh - Avonmouth LPG on Tuesday night to return as 6O10 03.00 Avonmouth LPG - Eastleigh Yd (05:33) on Wednesday morning 27/7. Then onwards to their destiny from there.
66180, the loco on the Discharged tanks on Mon 18/7 was called back from the junction at Worgret to shunt out wagon BPO 59185 to the cripple siding. This was rectified during the week & was recovered with the loaded tanks on Friday 22/7. System at Furzebrook was purged of residual gas and the pipeline from Wytch Farm to the rail head capped on Wednesday 20/7. Officially there were 5457 loaded trains out in 15 years of operation. Comment 'So long & thanks for all the Fish' on the rear of Friday 22/7's train is of course a quote from 'Hitch hickers guide to the galaxy' by Douglas Adams.
